Map Categories, Filters, and Search
Categories describe the kind of engagement. Filters and search help you narrow the map.
Category reference
The map has standard labels for the categories found in its current data:
- Community Engaged Teaching and Learning
- Service and Outreach
- Research and Research/Creative Activity
- Multi-Purpose
- Speaking Engagement
- Conference, Conference-Attending, and Conference-Presenting
- Meeting Collaboration
- Experiential Global Learning
- University Relations
- Professional Development/Training
- Donor Relations
- Recruiting and its faculty, staff, graduate student, undergraduate student, and student-athlete types
If an imported record uses another category, the map keeps its label and gives it a consistent color.
Filter types
- Data Source: matches the activity type stored on the record. Travel Data Report is one value in this list.
- Engagement category: matches the public category label.
- Location: matches a listed city, country, or submitted location.
- Date range: keeps records on or after From and on or before To. Records without dates do not match a date filter.
- Travel Data: is a shortcut for records whose activity type is Travel Data Report.
The search box inside a filter menu only shortens that menu option list. Choose an option to filter the map.
Search behavior
The main search checks the activity title, type, category, site category, site name, city, country, and location text. It does not search descriptions.
Suggestions are grouped as Engagement Activities, Locations, and Categories. Search and filters work together, so a record must match both to stay visible.
