The Connecticut Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network works throughout Connecticut to improve access to primary health care by linking local community groups with the resources of UConn Health and other health profession training programs. For example, the AHEC Program brought UConn Health students, faculty, and several community-based organizations to establish migrant farm worker health care in Connecticut. The AHEC Program is based at UConn Health and is implemented through four regional centers in Norwich, Hartford, Waterbury, and Bridgeport. Regional centers enable AHEC to carry out local programs efficiently and provide statewide coverage to provide high-quality, efficient, effective, and flexible services that meet local needs. CT AHEC’s four regional centers offer specialized training that includes a team-based and interprofessional approach, immersion in a partner agency, and didactic and clinical training specific to the topic and community. The focus of these experiences includes Children/Youth. The Elderly, Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, The Homeless.
